Sheikh Taher Amini Golestani (born August 26, 1980) also known as Sheikh Taher is an Iranian Shi'a cleric and founding director of International Institute for Peace and Religions in the Islamic Republic of Iran as well as co-founder of Vienna-Qom Academic Circle in Vienna, Austria.[1]. He works in interfaith dialogue between the Shi'a theological centers and non-Muslims, particularly European academic organizations, seminaries, and churches and has started new steps of Shia-Benedictines in St. Ottilien arch-monastery in Germany.[2] Sheikh Taher is also an interreligious and intercultural lecturer at Qom Universities.[3] and brought up the historical letter of Prophet Muhammad to the Christians (Ashtinameh) as his main mission to show a peaceful image of Islam to academics as well as Islamic and Christian Model of Inter-Religious Dialogue and has written an article[4] in this regard.[5].[6]
Early life and education
Sheikh Taher was born on August 26, 1980, in Ardebil, Iran. After studying elementary and high school in Tehran he continued his studies in Seminary of Qom also known as Hawzah (حوزه علمیه) from 1995. In 2002, after 7 years, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in political sciences as well as English translations in Qom. He continued his studies in communications and cultural studies at Baqir al-'Ulum University at the Ph.D. level and graduated in 2017 in Culture and Communications.[7].[8]
Career
Sheikh Taher, as a social worker and teacher in interreligious and intercultural dialogue, has been invited as a guest professor and lecturer in Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, and Greece, and is the writer of numerous articles about Prophet Muhammad's model of interreligious dialogue based on research on the Letter to the Christians.[9]
ViQo Circle
Sheikh Taher has founded two main centers in Qom and Vienna abbreviated as ViQo Circle. The ViQo Circle is for Catholic-Shi’a Dialogue on religion, philosophy, and political theory.[10] ViQo intends regular meetings to take place every two years, the venue alternating between Iran and Europe.
International Institute for Peace and Religions (IIPR)
Sheikh Taher is also the founder of International Institute for Peace and Religions (IIPR) which was first established in 2011 as “Muslim Christian Interfaith Dialogue” association (MCID) affiliated with Islamic Seminary of the Holy City of Qom (Hawzah Ilmiyya of Qom حوزه علمیه قم) and then developed its activities more in the form of joint projects with different interfaith, intra-faith and intercultural activities. This institute has also received a Presentation Letter by the Vatican Embassy to International Institute for Peace and Religions from the Vatican Embassy in Tehran.[11]
Variograf Scientific Club
Sheikh Taher, in his mission of inter academic works between Muslims and Christians, has been invited by Wroclaw university to join the academic committee at Variograf Scientific Club.[12]
Academic-Specialized Journal
Sheikh Taher is managing editor and Editor-in-Chief of the academic-specialized journal of Peace Studies of Religions which publishes peaceful papers in five languages (Persian, Arabic, English, French, and German).[13]
