Tahith Chong (born 4 December 1999) is a Dutch professional footballer who plays as a Forward for Manchester United. Chong was born in Willemstad, Curaçao before moving to the Netherlands.
He has played for the Netherlands at under-15, under-16, under-17 and under-19 levels.
Club career
Feyenoord
Before joining Manchester United, Chong played at Feyenoord, progressing through their ranks from Feyenoord Youth to Feyenoord U17s. In 2016, at the age of 16, Chong was signed by Manchester United.[2]
Manchester United
2016–2018
Chong joined the Manchester United Academy aged 18. He represented the under-18s in his first season, scoring an impressive strike at Old Trafford in the FA Youth Cup, which later ended up being United's only goal in that competition in 2016/17[3]
Despite being only 18, Chong has showcased his talent and progressed quickly through the ranks at Manchester United, joining the Manchester United U23s on July 1, 2018.
Chong won the Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year award, beating James Garner and Lee O'Connor.[4]
2018–19 season
Ahead of the 2018-19 season, Chong travelled with the Manchester United First-Team on their 2018 US Tour.[5][6]
International career
Chong began his international career in November 2013, when he made four appearances for the Netherlands at under-15 level, scoring 1 goal.
He was then called up to the under-16s in October 2014, making a total 11 appearances and scoring 1 goal. He then progressed up to the under-17 level on 11 September 2015, tallying 16 appearances and 2 goals for his side. Most recently he was promoted to the under-19 team, so far making 7 appearances. Chong is also eligible to represent Curaçao.
Chong's preferred position is as a right-winger.[1] However, he has shown his versatility in the Youth League and is comfortable playing anywhere across a front three.
