Take 5 is an American oil change company that has 674 locations, as of 2022, in 25 U.S. states and three in British Columbia, Canada.[1]

The company is owned by Driven Brands Company, which is also the parent company of other well known car care companies such as Maaco and Meineke.[2]

History[edit]

Take 5 Oil was founded in Louisiana during 1984.[3]

In 1996, Take 5 opened what is believed to be the first 5-minute oil change drive-through location in the United States.[4]

On March 30, 2016, Driven Brands announced their purchase of Take 5 Oil.

During the 2010s, the company ran an ad campaign on Cox television channels in North Carolina and on Ping Mobile telephones, giving away Charlotte Hornets tickets as part of their campaign.[5]

During 2022, the company was ranked in Entrepreneur Magazine's top 500 ranking, placing at number 161 for "new franchise opportunities".[6] That same year, Franchise Times ranked the company at number 134 of their top 500 franchises in their franchise opportunities in America list, climbing 18 spots from 2021, when they ranked at number 152.[4]

On October of 2022, Driven Brands announced that Take 5 had its 200th location opened when a store was inaugurated in Hutto, Texas.[7]

The company has also been expanding in New York, particularly in Albany, Rochester, Syracuse and other areas.[8]

NBA sponsorship[edit]

For the 2022-23 NBA season Take Five ranked as the second largest-expanding sponsor for the league. Its ads were to be visible on most televised games.[9]

Carolina Panthers[edit]

On November 15, 2023, it was announced that Take Five would sponsor the Carolina Panthers of the NFL as their "official oil change partner".[10]

Social causes[edit]

Since 2022, Take 5 Oil has been involved in donating money to the Folds of Honor Fundraiser, which is a campaing of support to the families of military and first responders personnel.[11]
