"Take Me Home" is a song by Romanian singer Alexandra Stan, released for digital download and streaming as a single on 5 May 2020 by Universal Music Romania. It was composed by Liviu Teodorescu and Stan, while the latter served as a lyricist alongside iRonic Distors. Musically, the song has been labelled as a departure from the singer's dance material by a music critic, solely containing a guitar played by Mircea Steriu in its instrumentation.
The lyrics of "Take Me Home" find Stan missing her love interest and wishing to be with them at home. Jonathan Currinn of CelebMix praised Stan's vocal delivery in the song and thought that the theme of loneliness was relevant during the COVID-19 quarantine. An accompanying music video was uploaded to the singer's YouTube channel simultaneously with the single release. Shot in Bucharest and directed by Cătălin Dardea, the video portrays Stan performing the song while accompanied by Steriu on guitar.
Background and composition[edit]
"Take Me Home" was composed by Liviu Teodorescu and Stan, while the latter served as a lyricist alongside iRonic Distors. Mixing, mastering and sound engineering were handled by Andrei Kerestely at Midi Sound Studio, and Mircea Steriu received credit for providing guitar.[1] Universal Music Romania released "Take Me Home" for digital download and streaming as a single on 5 May 2020.[2] The song was written around 2016 and had been performed by Stan at several concerts while still unreleased.[3][4]
In a Neatza cu Răzvan și Dani interview, the singer revealed that a more complex production had initially been planned for "Take Me Home", however, it ended up solely consisting of a guitar from Stan's wish.[4] Jonathan Currinn of CelebMix labelled the stripped-back track as a departure from her past dance material, and also likened it to Stan's single "Thanks for Leaving" (2014). Lyrically, "Take Me Home" finds the singer missing her love interest and wishing to be with them at home, with "home" being used as a metaphor for "them and how they make you feel".[3]
Music video[edit]
A music video for "Take Me Home", directed by Cătălin Dardea, was uploaded to Stan's YouTube channel on 5 May 2020.[1] Shot in a minimalistic setting in Bucharest a few months prior to its release, the clip shows Stan during a live performance accompanied by Steriu on guitar. She wears the front half of a black dress which is loosely tied with straps across her back, as well as red-white hot pants and turquoise ankle boots.[3][5] While Raluca Chirilă of InfoMusic praised the video for bringing the viewer in a "dreaming state",[5] Currinn commended Stan's outifts and emotional delivery, yet slightly criticized the several close-up shots that made the music video "difficult to enjoy".[3]
