Talal Mubarak Al Hammad (Arabic: طلال الحماد /طلال مبارك الحماد) ; born on 20 June 1988 in Riffa, Bahrain) is a Bahraini entrepreneur and businessman. He is the Chairman of Wigan Athletic Football Club.[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Al Hammad was born on 20 June 1988 in Riffa, Bahrain. He has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture Engineering. He speaks Arabic and English.
Business activities and positions held[edit]
Talal Al Hammad worked in many sectors at the beginning of his career until he specialized in the sports investment sector, real estate and technology projects.
His career experience is predominantly as an architect, with experience in project management. By 2015, Al Hammad had worked in different executive positions including time as an investment strategy specialist. Al Hammad has managed projects in Bahrain, England, France, Switzerland and Cyprus.[2]
Wigan Athletic Football Club[edit]
In early March 2021, the administrators of Wigan Athletic were in advanced talks with a consortium, Phoenix 2021 Ltd, led by Talal Mubarak al-Hammad,[3] and a takeover was agreed on 15 March, subject to EFL approval and finalisation of paperwork. Under the proposed deal, Al-Hammad would become chairman.[4][5] On 30 March 2021, Al Hammad was appointed as chairman of the club. In its first season under his leadership, the club won the League One title and promotion to the Championship.[6]
Honours[edit]
On 9 May 2022 Al Hammad was awarded with the title of Honorary Wiganer by Wigan Council, as recognition for his significant impact on the Wigan community.[7]
