Background[edit]

After the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid spoke at their first press conference at Government Media & Information Center on Tuesday 17 August 2021 in Kabul.[1][2][3] He answered questions on a number of topics, including women's rights, and said that it would be determined in accordance with the Islamic law.[4] Many journalists who were watching and listening to him saw Zabihullah's face for the first time because for a long time only his voice was heard.[5] The BBC's Yalda Hakim said she was shocked to see him, with whom she had only been talking for more than a decade.[6]

Mujahid has said that soon there will be a strong Islamic government in Afghanistan, no revenge will be taken from anyone, Afghan land will not be used against anyone, women will have rights according to Islamic Sharia, women's We will end discrimination, improve the country's economy and people's jobs, the media is free, all institutions will continue their activities, and the religious beliefs and spiritual values of all Afghans will be respected.[6]
