Taoujout or Takaat (Berber languages: ⵜⴰⵡⵊⵓⵜ) is a Tunisian Berber village located in Tunisia and has an elevation of 414 metres. Taoujout is situated north of Tamezret. The whole village speaks the native Berber language (Tamazight) fluently. The women preserved the native language of Tunisia. The citizens of Taoujout were among the few people in Tunisia that refused to leave when Habib Bourguiba, the first president, ordered people to serve the country and leave their old villages. To this day, people in Taoujout are strongly attached to their ethnic background, culture and their old traditions, while many towns of Tunisia lost their mother tongue Tamazight to the Arabic language and Darija, a mixture of Arabic, Tamazight, French, Italian and Maltese. .[1]
