With TapTap, players can download free mobile games and purchase paid mobile games and services through official channels. They can also rate, discuss, and communicate with other players within the community. [1][2] TapTap provides developers with a set of game publishing services and a software development kit, TDS (TapTap Developer Services), for free. Developers can choose to integrate TapTap's friends, achievements, and other functions and services into their own games through TDS. [3]

History[edit]
Founding and Growth[edit]
Prior to TapTap's launch, global game developer and publisher, XD encountered hardship in publishing games. At the time, they believed that the Android platform for mobile games within China was in a chaotic state. The unreasonable recommendation system and commission rate made Android users unable to discover truly enjoyable games on the platform and imposed serious financial burdens on game developers.[5] Consequently, Huang Yimeng, CEO of XD, with other founders created a game recommendation platform and application store for mobile games, hoping to accommodate the demands and interests of players, game developers, and the platform itself.[6]
On April 17, 2016, TapTap launched its first mobile application platform, the Android version of TapTap, followed by the iOS version of TapTap launching in August of the same year.[1]
At the beginning of its launch, TapTap announced a series of measures that are welcoming of game developers, including zero commission. In June 2016, TapTap launched new features for developers including game pre-register for upcoming games and game testing. The first game to participate in the game test was Card Monsters from Mu77 Game Studio. During the test, it received more than 8,000 downloads and more than 1,000 players joined the game’s group chat.[6]
Development[edit]
In January 2017, TapTap held its first awards event "2016 TapTap Awards". The awards included the Game of the year award and five annual outstanding individual awards, "Clash Royale" won the best game of the year, as well as the Best Gameplay of the Year.[1]
March 9, 2017, TapTap released the "Controversial Game Zone". When a certain number of players dispute the content and gameplay of a game for reasons such as imitation and plagiarism, the game will be placed in the "Controversial Game Zone". The in-site display of the game will be removed and only accessible through users’ active search. All players can publicly express support and disapproval of the game in the "Controversial Game Zone".[7]
April 17, 2017, TapTap celebrated its 1st anniversary. In the year 2017, the number of TapTap users exceeded 20 million, the daily active users exceeded 1 million, and the average daily active users remained around 800,000. The same year, more than 20,000 game companies and developers signed up and joined TapTap as well as releasing games on the platform.[8]
On May 25, 2017, at the Youjiu Open Course where individuals within the gaming community gathered, Cui Wei, TapTap's overseas business director, remarked that TapTap has over 1.1 million daily active users, over 6 million monthly active users, and over 22 million total users.[9]
From December 8th to December 10th, 2017, TapTap and XD held the first "Indie Camp - 48 Hours of Game Development Challenge", an offline Game Jam. The theme of this Indie Camp was "Bonfire". The participating teams need to complete the entire game development process including programming, game design, art design, etc. within 48 hours.
