Tapes In Motion is a Canadian indie pop duo from Peterborough, Ontario. The band was formed in 2022 by lead singer Tristan Konkle and drummer Colby McAllister. Their first EP, Art and Irreligion, was released in 2022.[1]
History[edit]
2022-present: Formation and debut EP[edit]
In January 2018, longtime friends Tristan Konkle and Colby McAllister initially formed indie pop duo 'Drift and Collide' while in high school together. The band released three singles, Wallflower[2], Attitude[3], and Six Feet Under[4]. It was announced in September of 2020 that the duo would no longer continue to make music together via an Instagram post. In September 2021, Konkle began attending studying Independent Music Production at Seneca College in Toronto[5]. Shortly after graduating, Konkle began self-producing and releasing music under his own name, recruiting McAllister to record drums for his new releases.
Shortly after releasing his single 'Time Won't Tell'[6] with collaborator Nyssa Lynn, Konkle announced that all of his previously-released music would be re-released under the name 'Tapes In Motion', with McAllister officially joining him on drums. The band announced their debut EP 'Art and Irreligion'[7] via their music video for 'A Whisper'.[8] Following the release of their debut EP, the duo began teasing the release of new music in March of 2023 via their Instagram page, leading to the release of their single 'Automatic'[9] in April of 2023.
