Tarun Sharma (born in Mumbai, India) is an American entrepreneur, writer and speaker.[1][2][3][4] He founded Yodda Elder Care in 2021 after experiencing the lack of elder care when his parents were sick in India.[5] Sharma has co-authored two academic books and writes articles in magazines & newspapers.[6]
Early life and education
Sharma was born in Mumbai, but his family moved to Pune in the early 70s after his father had a serious accident on the Pune-Mumbai Highway. After schooling, he wanted to become a doctor but was unable to get into medical school. Sharma received his Bachelor of Engineering from Pune Institute of Computer Technology in Computer Science in 1992.[5]
Career
Sharma started his career as a teacher at NIIT in Pune. He later moved to the US to work for General Electric as a programmer. Tarun Sharma founded EC Cubed with Faisal Hoque in 1996. It was recognised by ComputerWorld as one of the "Top 100 Emerging Companies to Watch in 2000" and was able to raise a capital of 50 million dollars for pioneering B2G applications before the dotcom crash. Sharma is widely known for being the CEO and Chief Customer Officer at BMC Software India from 2009 - 2019.[5][1][2] During his tenure at BMC, Sharma was recognised for philanthropic activities that specifically focused on changing the lives of the underprivileged and vulnerable groups.
Sharma co-founded Serv'd, a social impact company for bringing financial inclusion to people who work in the unorganised sector. Serv’d received a grant of USD 100,000 from Bill & Melinda Gates foundation in 2016.[7] He founded Yodda Elder Care in 2021 after realising how difficult it is for Indians living abroad to take care of their aging parents in India.[8][9]
Sharma is a conference speaker and frequently speaks about artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital transformation at NASSCOM and CII events.[4]
