From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

August 11th 2017, Teenagers With Experience participated in a mental health fair in Luton called Different Minds.

Teenagers With Experience (also known as TWE) is an online platform created on the 25th November 2015 by Emily Megan Taylor to provide teenagers around the world with a safe space to share their experiences, provide support and educate their peers.[1]

Origins[edit]

November 25th 2015[edit]

Emily Megan Taylor set up Teenagers With Experience at age 16 because of turbulence going on in her own life.[2] After struggling speaking to adults and counsellors with her problems, Emily found it a lot easier to speak about her problems with her peers who had been through similar problems. She decided she wanted to create a space for others like her to seek help from a non-judgement, safe space. On the 25th of November 2015, founder Emily and friend Aimee Manson Milner set up what came to be Teenagers With Experience.

Originally using Website Builder the original website was Welcome to TWE! and only covered two subjects, Anxiety and Depression, and Sexuality and Sexual Identity. After 3 months, the team decided to move their website to Weebly, creating the start of what Teenagers With Experience is today. The website now has over 500 articles spread between 7 categories and 52 subcategories. While the website covers many topics, their most popular areas are School and Mental Health.[2]

Recognition[edit]

Awards[edit]

Since its start, TWE has received plenty of recognition. in 2017 Emily Megan Taylor received The Graham White Cup Award from her high school Maghull High School for her hard work and dedication to helping fellow students.[3] She was also awarded an Excellence Scholarship from Edge Hill University in September 2017.[4]

Interview[edit]

In the summer of 2018, Edge Hill University's alumni magazine featured Teenagers With Experience in their magazine within an interview with founder Emily.[5]

Competition[edit]

On the 14th of May 2020, Teenagers With Experience won £250 from VibePay to use towards supporting their users and creating a bigger platform. With this money, £50 was donated to charity and the remaining funds were used to secure the domain name and upgrade the website to make it more accessible and easier to use, finally adding a search bar to the site.

Members[edit]

Since 2015, Teenagers With Experience has had over 200 volunteers, their current number is between 60-70 members. Their members come from around the world, while majority come from the United Kingdom, they have had volunteers from the USA, Canada, Australia, India, Poland and more. They have an online application for those aged between 13 and 25 to apply for one of their different teams.

Social Media[edit]

TWE have many different social media platforms including Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok. They use these platforms to provide easy access for its audience to get into contact with someone and seek out advice, support or information.

Teenagers With Experience also have their own YouTube channel. Although set up in 2016, they did not begin to properly use their channel until 2020. The channel now uploads monthly, with various volunteers creating videos on a variety of topics.

This was Emily's first radio experience and since then has continued to work with the radio station to promote TWE and support their youth panel.
