Tengai is a Swedish developer of software products for recruitment. Tengai AB was founded by Elin Öberg Mårtenzon in 2019. The headquarters is located on Pyramidvägen 7 in Solna, Sweden.
Its products and services aim to provide tools for unbiased interviewing.[1] By combining artificial intelligence (AI) and behavioral science in an AI screening interview for recruitment.
History
The idea behind Tengai originated through a collaboration between the recruitment and staffing agency TNG who worked with Furhat Robotics in 2018.[2] Tengai's CEO and founder, Elin Öberg Mårtenzon and Tengai's Chief Product Officer Sinisa Strbac initiated an innovation lab called TNGx that aimed to create an unbiased interview experience.
In 2019, Tengai AB became incorporated to focus on global expansion.[3]

According to Forbes, Tengai is designed to conduct unbiased interviews in as “human” a way as possible.[4]
In 2019, Tengai was awarded “Best Newcomer” by the National Online Recruitment Awards in the UK[5] and in 2020, Tengai won most “Innovative Company Of The Year” at The Recruitment Awards, hosted by branschen.se. [6] In 2021, Tengai's CEO was included in TA Tech's top 100 most "Influential Talent Acquisition Thought Leaders" of the fall class, 2021. [7]
Software
Tengai is an AI interview that is interactive in its nature and uses natural language understanding (NLU) which gives it the ability to understand human language as it is spoken. The framework combines conversational AI and behavioral science into one AI interview.
In 2018, Tengai was a physical, social robot. The robot body and the conversational platform were provided by Furhat Robotics on which TNGx programmed the D&I software application.[8]
In 2020, Tengai became a digital interview.
In 2022, Tengai announced an updated, avatar interface to be released in 2023.
