Terlan Mirzeyev (born March 6, 2001; Baku) is an Azerbaijani composer, pianist, songwriter, musician, singer and multi-instrumentalist. At the same time, he is a painter who has many works, although he does not do it as a profession. In addition to this, he is an artist who has both a psychologist and a philosopher side, brought by his composition.[1][2][3]
Although his main instrument is the piano, he also plays various other instruments (guitar, garmon, accordion, synthesizer, drum, trumpet, mandolin, melodica, harpsichord, xylophone, chorus, tambourine, orchestra bell, organ, etc.).[1]
With the art of postmodernism, Terlan Mirzeyev gives place to experimentation, minimalism and modernity in his music.
Early life[edit]
He was born on March 6, 2001 in Azerbaijan / Baku. His father is a carpenter and his mother is a kindergarten teacher.[4] It is an indisputable issue that the music of the lands and geography where he lived and grew up is valuable, special and rich, as well as its place in the world of music, especially in terms of sound (timbres and talents). These features of geography have contributed greatly to Terlan Mirzeyev's music and voice since birth. Although there was no musical career in his family, they always had a piano in their house. Since Azerbaijan is a country known for its folk music, Terlan Mirzeyev grew up with this as well as classical and jazz music.[3]
Education and Music Career[edit]
Interested in music since childhood, Terlan enters Seid Rustamov's music school at the age of 7 (2009).[5] During his 5-year musical education on the Garmon instrument, he also receives vocal training. He finishes music school at the age of 13 (2014) and then improves himself by playing the piano within 3 years. At the age of 16, he composes his first piano piece called "Life Goes On", but he is releasing this composition on February 18, 2019.[6] Terlan, who likes to try different instruments, suddenly buys a "classical guitar" at the age of 18 and adds guitar to his instruments. Since he had an engineering dream in his childhood, he continued his university education at the Azerbaijan State Petroleum and Industry University by winning the "Engineering of Energy Devices" (2018) department.[7]
Terlan Mirzeyev is not only interested in music, but also in other branches of art. In 2017, after taking "Painting" lessons for 2 years, she exhibited her works. Later, he also had a great interest in Philosophy and Authorship. This is where songwriting comes from. He explains the reason for learning psychology as follows:
“A composition theoretically consists of melodies, while melodies consist of notes. In my eyes, a composition consists of emotions and feelings. This is a very important element, but there is something more important than that. And this is the emotions and feelings of the listeners…”
Thoughts and Opinions[edit]
He says that composing is a very difficult path. It requires you to sacrifice some things in your life and forces you to pay a great price. He does not find it correct to describe composing as a job or profession. Because a profession is something that is earned, but you can't earn it. That's why Terlan Mirzeyev, after graduating from music school, his teacher offers him to take the conservatory exams, but Terlan politely expresses his opinion and refuses this offer. In this thought, he informs his teacher that he is against the exams and that he thinks it is unnecessary. He could not let a person's talent and talent be judged by a few judges sitting there, leaving his future to their conscience and judgment.[3][1]
If a person is talented, he is talented. It's over, and that's an indisputable topic. He sees the evaluation of a person's abilities by other people as a great disrespect, first to his talent and then to the person's personality. In the "Composition" departments at the conservatories, "They only teach how to compose, not how to be a composer..." and adds:
“Because composing is not only composing but also getting to know people... It's knowing, understanding, feeling and controlling emotions... It's understanding nature... It's seeing colors and hearing sounds flying in the air... It's listening... Understanding life. is to work... For that, you need to understand psychology, philosophy, art and science...”[1]
