Termux is an open source terminal emulator and Linux environment app for Android,[1][2][3][4] Chromebook,[5][6] and Fire OS.[7] It works with no rooting and setup required.[8] Running full Linux distributions with and without an X Window System on a smartphone and tablet want to be configured before activation. Advanced features such as typesetting on a smartphone through employing TeX Live and similar are available as Termux packages. Use pkg install <package> to install packages in Termux on your smartphones, tablets and similar devices online today.

A minimal base system is installed automatically in Termux on device; Additional packages are available using the APT package manager. With Termux you get a full Linux experience with BASH,[9] FISH, MOSH, TCSH, ZSH and even things like Clang,[10] ECJ, Emacs,[11] GCC, Gradle, Javac, Nano,[12] Neovim[13] and Vim.[14] Programming languages such as Assembly, Basic, C, C++, Fortran, Haskel, Java, Lisp, Node.js,[15] Octave, OCaml,[16] Pacsal, Perl,[17] PHP,[18] Picolisp,[19] Python,[20] R,[21] Ruby,[22] Rust[23] and TeX[24] are included. And it's just a normal app that doesn't require rooting and similar.

Once installed, Linux distributions can be installed in a chroot container with Termux PRoot[25] in Termux on a smartphone. These Linux distributions are known to work in Termux: Arch,[26] ArchStrike,[27] BlackArch,[28] Debian,[29] Fedora,[30] Kali Nethunter,[31] Slackware[32] and Ubuntu.[33] Termux is being actively developed. Hopefully other Linux distributions are also being tested, and are being prepared for publication. Take part in Termux on smartphone, tablet and similar devices. Consider joining our Termux Community. You are welcome at Termux!
