Tetris 2 + BomBliss (Japanese: テトリス2+ボンブリス, Hepburn: Tetorisu 2 + bonburisu) is a video game developed by Chunsoft and originally published in 1991 and 1992 by Bullet-Proof Software for the Famicom, and Super Famicom as Super Tetris 2 + BomBliss (Japanese: スーパーテトリス2+ボンブリス).[1][2] The game is a direct follow-up of the Famicom version of Tetris released in 1988, also published by Bullet-Proof Software, differentiating it from other sequels which share the Tetris 2 title.[1]

Gameplay[edit]

The game contains two modes: a standard Tetris mode, and a new "BomBliss" mode which introduces a bomb as part of the tetrominos into gameplay, as well as dominos, trominos, and pentomino pieces.

Development[edit]

Producer Tsunekazu Ishihara of Chunsoft (currently the President of The Pokemon Company) became enraptured by Tetris gameplay and concept after playing a PC version.[3][4] However Chunsoft was beaten to the punch for publishing rights on the Famicom by Bullet-Proof Software, which released their own Tetris port in 1988.[1] Ishihara believed he could improve on this Famicom version, including the ability to rotate the tetrominos as they fell. While working on this new Tetris port, the team at Chunsoft began developing a version of Tetris with its own special rules, which they called "BomBliss".

Music[edit]

Original music for the game was composed by Koichi Sugiyama of Dragon Quest fame.[5] Players can cycle through the available background music tracks by pressing the Select button.
