History
Brian and Jamey Elrod, husband and wife entrepreneurs[2], had the idea for what would become Text Request in 2012, after struggling to get a server’s attention in a restaurant.[3] They could not find a way to text a business and reach a live person, and they wanted to create a way to do it.
The Elrods needed a technical partner to build the software, and brought on Rob Reagan, a software consultant, as CTO and third co-founder of Text Request.[4] The trio created the name and initial vision for Text Request. The company launched on November 20, 2014, as an online platform for hospitality businesses to manage inbound text message requests from customers.[5]
Text Request added more features over time, including two-way (conversational) texting, mass messaging, peer to peer texting, MMS (picture) messaging, landline texting,[6] and an API, among others, as they grew from a hospitality texting service to a general business text messaging software.
The company has taken no outside investment.[7]
