The Castle (Ybor) is a gothic nightclub located in the historic Ybor City neighborhood of Tampa, Florida.[1] Founded in 1992 by Alan Kahana, The Castle features multilevel dance floors, bars, various live DJ performances, and hosts costume parties and themed events – 80s nights, Star Wars nights, cosplay events, steampunk and vampire balls.[2]
Historic building
The Castle is located in a gothic architecture-styled building built by Vicente Martinez Ybor in Ybor City's Historic District in 1930, dubbed the Cooperative El Primero Progresso (Ybor's Labor Temple).[3] The building's architecture features a tall castle-like battlement, medieval arched doors and stained-glass windows. Inside the building is a main hallway to a grand staircase way with a lower level 'dungeon' and main hall to a courtyard. The historic building was used by Ybor City cigar and restaurant labor union workers to organize and host union events until its conversion into a nightclub in 1992.[4]
