We engage, challenge and support children as they develop the skills and confidence to achieve educational success. We nurture the whole child through a thoughtful, balanced curriculum. We intentionally build a diverse school community, and we value, respect, and educate ourselves about its complexities and gifts. We foster the growth of our students so they will become responsible, contributing members of the world who stand up for their beliefs, express their thoughts, and care about the rights and feelings of others."
History[edit]
The Chestnut Hill School was Founded in 1860 through a bequest in the will of Thomas A. Lee, who felt the community at the time needed not just a church, but a school. As a result of his bequest, the Lee Chapel (now the library) was built and served as the original schoolhouse. Initially focusing on early elementary grades, the school eventually expanded up to grade 6 in 1968. In the 1980’s, under the leadership of Karan Merry, The Chestnut Hill School became one of the first schools in the country to have a Multicultural Assessment Plan performed by the NAIS. The current Head of School is Tamara Schurdak.[2]
