A painting of the Sinking of the Cumberland.

The Cumberland's Crew is a Sea Shanty-esque folk song that dates back to at least the late 1930s. It is about the sinking of the Union frigate USS Cumberland by the Confederate Ironclad CSS Virginia during the American Civil War. The song has a theme of being a Pro-Unionist song, however its origin is unknown so whether it was written during the war or not is uncertain. There are recordings of the song from the library of congress from 1938-39[1] There are however variations of the lyrics that exist due to it being changed over time.
