The Dreamboats are a Canadian retro cover band from Mississauga, Ontario, known for playing 1950s and 1960s rock ’n’ roll and for energetic live shows.[1][2][3]

History and style

The group formed in 2009 in Mississauga and later established a following in Southern California.[3] Media coverage describes their performances as high-energy, with a repertoire centered on rock ’n’ roll of the 1950s and ’60s.[1][2][3]

In May 2015, The Dreamboats performed at Liverpool’s Cavern Club during the International Pop Overthrow festival; the festival schedule lists the band, and local coverage recommended the appearance.[4][5]

In 2019, the short film The Hawkstone Sessions—documenting the band recording at Ronnie Hawkins’ barn near Peterborough—premiered via Glide Magazine.[6]

In 2023, the group appeared on the nationally broadcast series Canada's Got Talent; the episode also announced 18 semifinalists—The Dreamboats were not among them.[7][8][9]

The band has appeared frequently in the Palm Springs, California area, including Modernism Week performances noted by Palm Springs Life.[2]

Connections to classic-era performers

The Dreamboats have cited links to and collaborations with earlier-era entertainers:

  • Ronnie Hawkins: In the mini-documentary The Hawkstone Sessions, Hawkins is heard saying of the group, “I think they’re the best rock ’n’ roll group (my old style of rock ’n’ roll) that I’ve ever seen.”[6]
  • Chan Romero: The band have performed Romero’s “Hippy Hippy Shake” with him in concert; performance videos have been published by the band and third parties.[10] In 2024, they performed at Romero’s Celebration of Life in Indian Wells, California, as documented by musician Mark Guerrero and event footage.[11][12]
  • Robbie Lane & the Disciples: The Dreamboats shared a bill with Lane and his band at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre in 2017; local coverage and the group’s appearances on Lane’s Zoomer Radio programmes were also documented.[13][14]
