History[edit]

1.1  Early years and formation (2012)[edit]

The F16s were officially formed in August 2012. The members got together after finding a common interest in the music they liked and wanted to play. Before coming together, they were playing in Chennai with several other bands. Vocalist-guitarist Josh Fernandez, bassist Shashank Manohar, keyboardist Harshan Radhakrishnan, and drummer Vikram Yesudas were previously the part of Blacklisted, an alternative rock band Bishop’s Got Papes and Totem. Guitarist Abhinav Krishnaswamy joined The F16s when the original guitarist Viraj Yesudas left the band in July 2013. Before that, he was the part of the Chennai based alternative rock band The Shakey Rays. [2]

The F16s played at Hornbill International Rock Contest in Nagaland and also performed at the semi-finals of IIT Bombay’s Livewire band competition, played at three-day Magnetic Fields Festivals in Rajasthan and a few gigs in Delhi and Gurgaon. The F16s have travelled across the length and breadth of the Indian Indie music by releasing 2 EPs and a full-length debut album, Kaleidoscope and also by performing at prime festivals and venues across the country. The band has also travelled into Southeast Asia, with a 6-city tour to Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. [3] [4]

1.2  Kaleidoscope and Nobody’s Gonna Wait (2013- 2014)[edit]

Soon after their formation in the year 2012, The F16s released its first six songs EP, Kaleidoscope which was released in August 2013. Before the release of Kaleidoscope, The F16s were already playing in festivals such as India Bike Week, the first edition which was held in Goa. After the release of the EP, the band performed in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. [5]

Along with this in the year 2014, The F16s released a 2-track recording in Brooklyn, New York called Nobody’s Gonna Wait as a part of the Converse Rubber Tracks Global Music Program. [6] [7]

1.3  Triggerpunkte and Wknd Frnds (2016-2019)[edit]

After the success of their first six songs EP, Kaleidoscope, The F16s released their debut full-length album, Triggerpunkte in August 2016. Triggerpunkte was highly influenced by English Indie rock bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Foals. [8]  Triggerpunkte is a German word that means the trigger points of your body and they are never in one place. True to the meaning, the album is a mix blend of emotions like happiness, melancholy, sensitive, romantic. This album is an overall reaction to the band’s previous efforts and its outcome is a populist, experimental, straightforward and multi-layered album. Triggerpunkte is one of the profitable albums which has come out of the Independent music circuit in India in the past few years. ‘Moon Child’ one of the songs from the album is the most-streamed song. [9]

On May 31, 2019, The F16s released their fourth album, Wknd Frnds with the first single Amber already out. On April 11, The F16s released their first single from the album Wknd Frnds. Amber came out with an animated music video that was directed by Deepti Sharma. This song talks about the identity crisis inside the colourful but abstract mind of the creator. The F16s made conscious efforts on this album by writing it a little differently by introducing a lot of synth sounds and horn section. Wknd Frnds is an impressive display of striking and vibrant colors. The album was officially released on May 2019. [10] [11][12]
