The First was a comic book from the Florida-based CrossGen Comics. It was created by Barbara Kesel, Bart Sears and was one of the second wave of titles in the company's Sigilverse shared universe. The First ran for 37 issues (November 2000 – December 2003). The First is an epic story with mythical elements about a race of god-like beings who think they are the first to have been created. The First is a part of the greater Sigilverse, which is a narrative encompassing all of CrossGen comics in the same universe. The symbols of the First's two Houses form a shape similar to a Yin and Yang.
In the series the First go to worlds where there are new Sigil-bearers. Ilhan, one of those Sigil-bearers from the world of Meridian visits one of the First, Elisha, on the First’s home world. On another world, a Sigil-bearer takes one of their most powerful weapons, and kills one of the First with it. Then the First learn that Altwaal, the oldest and most powerful of the First, is alive. Finally, one of the First finds out that they are not the first to have been created.
