The French Associates Institute for Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands (FAAB) is one of three research institutes constituting the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, a faculty of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU). The FAAB is located on the BGU's Sede Boqer Campus in Midreshet Ben-Gurion in Israel's Negev Desert, and hosts researchers who carry out fundamental and applied research on sustainable agricultural practices to increase food production, especially in arid areas where conventional agricultural methods are difficult to implement.[1] The FAAB encompasses two departments: the Albert Katz Department of Dryland Biotechnologies, and the Wyler Department of Dryland Agriculture.[2]

The FAAB is one of three institutes currently constituting the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research, which were originally established in 1974.[3]

Academics[edit]

The French Associates Institute for Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands hosts two departments: 1. the Albert Katz Department of Dryland Biotechnologies, and 2. the Wyler Department of Dryland Agriculture.[4] The FAAB also offers an MSc degree in Desert Studies, with a focused track of study in either Agriculture and Biotechnology of Drylands or Irrigation and the Plant Environment, through the framework of the Albert Katz International School for Desert Studies, also located at BGU's Sede Boqer Campus.[5]
