The Friedkin Group, Inc. (TFG), is an American multinational consortium of businesses and investments headquartered in Houston, Texas. TFG companies span across the automotive, entertainment, hospitality and sports sectors. Among their most prominent businesses are Gulf States Toyota, one of two private distributors of Toyota vehicles in the United States, and Italian Serie A club Roma, one of Europe's top football teams and among the world's 30 most valuable football clubs.[1]
In 1969, Thomas H. Friedkin - father of current chairman and CEO Dan Friedkin - formed a partnership with the Toyota Motor Corporation to launch a distribution network for Toyota vehicles and parts in the southern United States.[2] In the 1980s, TFG began to diversify their operations in the automotive sector through the establishment of insurance and financing services for Toyota customers, as well as the opening of a trucking division. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, TFG continued to expand their dealership network of Toyota vehicles across the United States, including luxury subsidiary Lexus.[3] In the 2010s, TFG expanded rapidly to include businesses beyond their automotive portfolio, acquiring Auberge Resorts Collection - a group of luxury hotels, resorts and residences[4] - and establishing the film and television studio Imperative Entertainment,[5] which has gone on to produce films such as All the Money in the World (2017) and Killers of the Flower Moon (2023).[6]
The 2020s marked TFG's foray into the sports sector and saw their profile rise further with the acquisition of Roma from the American billionaire hedge fund manager James Pallotta.[7] In 2023, TFG added to their sports business portfolio by acquiring the French football club Cannes.[8]
TFG also engages in numerous philanthropic initiatives, most notably the Friedkin Conservation Fund, which works to preserve vulnerable wildlife areas in Africa by working with local authorities to facilitate anti-poaching operations and ensure the preservation of indigenous communities.[9]
The Friedkin Group currently employs over 5,900 people worldwide.[10] In 2022, TFG achieved revenues of $10.7 billion, topping the Houston Chronicle's list of 100 top private companies.[11]
