The Gatecrashers is an ongoing color comic book series created by writer Zachary Mortensen. Artist Sutu established the look and color palette of the world, and illustrated the first seven issues. Palomar City is an overpopulated, tightly-packed, American mega-city. The stories in this near-future sci-fi world rocket from the dangerous, high-octane lifestyle of ambulance teams, nicknamed Gatecrashers, to the back-stabbing politics of city hall, from behind the doors of Palomar General, the busiest public emergency room in the world, to the illicit wetware markets of the streets.
Characters[edit]
- Hex Spencer: A 25 year-old freelance ambulance medic, a Gatecrasher. She left behind a life of crime and now everyday is a struggle to avoid the lure of the streets and to stay on the right side of the law.
- Estefan Hawk: President of Independent District 11.
- Rada Raja: Owner of Ganesa Ambulance Dispatch and Hex's boss.
- Dane Brennan: Industrialist and developer who never met a shady deal he didn't like.
- Girlie Warren: The mayor of Palomar City.
- Melita Spencer: Hex's twelve-year-old niece.
Critical reception[edit]
Critical reception has been positive, R.C. Baker named The Gatecrashers debut to the top comics and graphic novels of 2014. "Zachary Mortensen's whip-smart plot interweaves corporate terrorism with street-level heroics.” [1] BleedingCool included The Gatecrashers in its list of the top indie comics of 2014. [2]
