The second and current incarnation of the Hasbro Comic Book Universe (HCBU) is an American comic book franchise and shared fictional universe that was originally published by IDW Publishing since 2019 to 2022,[1] and is being continued by Skybound Entertainment since 2023.[2]
Based on various brands from Hasbro, it is a reboot of the previous continuity that IDW debuted between 2005 and 2018.[3]
Publication history[edit]
Background[edit]
Between 2005 and 2018, IDW Publishing debuted the original incarnation of the Hasbro Comic Book Universe (HCBU) with The Transformers: Infiltration, featuring titles and characters from Transformers, G.I. Joe, Jem, Micronauts, Rom, Action Man, M.A.S.K., Clue, Visionaries and Army Ants, culminating in the Hasbro Reconstruction relaunch that included Revolution, First Strike and Transformers: Unicron.[4][5]
Development[edit]
In August 2018, former IDW Publishing President Greg Goldstein announced new reboots for various of their Hasbro-based comics.[3] In 2019, IDW debuted the new HCBU continuity with new series based on Transformers, G.I. Joe and Rom.[6][7] Between 2022 and 2023, IDW passed the licenses of Transformers and G.I. Joe to Skybound Entertainment.[1][2]
