The Greedies (in 1978 known as The Greedy Bastards) was a short-lived ad hoc supergroup formed by the Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott in 1978 during the quiet period of his main band. It arose from Lynott's interest in punk rock and his friendship with members of Sex Pistols, The Damned, and The Boomtown Rats. The following line-up centered around Lynott, Thin Lizzy members Scott Gorham and Gary Moore, Chris Spedding, Steve Jones and Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols. Thanks to this aggregation, Thin Lizzy, Sex Pistols, and even Stevie Wonder appeared in four shows in London and three in Ireland.

Later, after the release of "A Merry Jingle", the band quietly imploded as Phil Lynott went on with Thin Lizzy and Cook with Jones formed The Professionals.

U.S. tour of Thin Lizzy prevented further activities until the end of 1979, when recordings of Lynott, Cook, Jones, Gorham, and Thin Lizzy drummer Brian Downey brought the Christmas single "A Merry Jingle" ("Jingle Bells" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" medley), which was released in December 1979.[2] John Peel broadcast it several times during the holidays on John Peel Show on BBC Radio One. According to Lynott, its production took them three hours. At the first performance, Peel said: "It has to be said that Messrs. Cook and Jones really do know how to push a record along when they get down to it." [3] TV shows on Kenny Everett Show and Top of the Pops[2] They strengthened the record and reached number 28 in the UK charts, but to this day it has never appeared on any official release of Thin Lizzy, the single was released in the U.S. and was the only release of the Greedies. "A Merry Jangle" is actually an A-side played backwards.
