The Hot Damn! are a British pop/rock band founded in 2020 during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Formed by Gill Montgomery (vocals, guitar) formerly of The Amorettes, Laurie Buchanan (guitar, backing vocals) formerly of Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics, Lzi Hayes (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Josie O'Toole (drums) formerly of Tequila Mockingbyrd.[1][2][3]

History[edit]

2018-2020: Formation and early years[edit]

On December 8th 2018, O'Toole's former Australian rock band Tequila Mockingbyrd announced via Facebook that vocalist and guitarist Louisa Baker had parted ways with the band. Meanwhile, February 25th 2019, Montgomery's former Scottish band The Amorettes announced via Facebook that rhythm section and sisters, Heather McKay (bass) and Hannah McKay (drums) had parted ways with the band.[4][5] This lead Montgomery to join Tequila Mockingbyrd drummer Josie O'Toole and bass player Jacinta Jaye to form a touring line-up in order to honour both bands upcoming UK and European shows for 2019. The newly formed line-up then announced that Laurie Buchanan, guitarist of Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics would join the collaborative members initially on bass guitar whilst Jaye was away in Australia and then moving over to rhythm guitar once Jaye was back in the UK. Both bands honoured all dates in 2019. This included supporting Terrorvision under The Amorettes guise on Terrorvision's 25th anniversary sold out tour celebrating "How To Make Friends And Influence People" with dates including London's Islington Assembly Hall, SWX Bristol, Rock City in Nottingham and the O2 Ritz in Manchester.[6] The collective also played Blue Balls Festival in Lucerne, Switzerland supporting Airborne and Steelhouse Festival in Wales supporting Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heap and Living Colour among others. In September 2019, Jaye opted to leave both The Amorettes and Tequila Mockingbyrd and return back home to Australia.[7][8][6][9][10]

In 2020, Montgomery, O'Toole and Buchanan announced that they would be stepping away from both The Amorettes and Tequila Mockingbyrd in order to form The Hot Damn! and later announced that Lzi Hayes (Sophie Lloyd Band, New Device) will be completing the line-up on bass guitar. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the band did not tour or release any music in 2020.
