The Institute for Israeli Thought (IIT) (Hebrew: המכון למחשבה ישראלית) is a research Institute of Israeli political thought based in Israel. IIT goals are to develop and promote a new paradigm for Israel from being fragmented by ethnic, national, or religious sectors into a more unified and inclusive Israeli civic national identity. The Institute’s fellows comprise of notable public intellectuals from various disciplines. The core research is devoted to :
- Resolving the issue of Israel’s territorial borders
- Overhauling Israel’s electoral system
- Drafting a constitution for Israel
IIT was established in 2020, by Profesor Avner Ben- Zaken, a historian of science[1] and Boaz Amitai an Israeli business entrepreneur and head of the Amitay family foundation.[2]

Activities[edit]
Conferences[edit]
The institute holds various conferences in its field of activity[4]. The annual conference is open to the public and the institute presents its latest policy papers, which considering the research carried out.[5]At the conference, panels are held dedicated to the institute's core issues.[6]
An Israeli Covenant[edit]
The Institute published an "Israeli Covenant" whose purpose it is to be complemantary to the "Israeli Declaration of Independence". The Covenant aims at crystallizing the institutional contours of the state of Israel. At its core is a call to make the state identity Israeli (instead of jewish-democratic), to separate religion from the state, to establish the regime on regional elections.[7]
Research[edit]
IIT conducts policy-oriented research in the fields of civil society and governing in Israel. The research is conducted by leading Israeli scholars who are associates of IIT.
Awards[edit]
The institute awards prizes in different categories every year.
- The annual non-fiction book award - the award named after Hillel Kook .
- The annual prose book award - the award named after Jacqueline Kahanoff is awarded to literature dealing with Israel.[8]
- The annual documentary film - the award named after Eli (Elhanan) Kleer is awarded to a documentary film in the Hebrew language.
- The annual doctoral award - the award named after Zvi Kasa is awarded to a doctoral thesis dealing with the institute's core areas.
Podcast[edit]
The podcast, hosted by journalist Gal Gabai, is dedicated to dealing with Israel's core problems from a structural perspective.
