The King of Pirates is a fictional adventure by Daniel Defoe.[1] It is one of the author's more obscure fictional books based on Henry Avery, an infamous pirate of his time.[2][3][4] The King of the Pirates was the basis for Daniel Defoe's later book Captain Singleton.[5]

Reception

Although The King of Pirates is thought to be an autobiography of Henry Avery, many historians view the book as an embellished and highly romanticised version of his life.[6][3][7][8][9][10][11]
