Synopsis[edit]

The Leftovers, is a 24 minutes documentary on educational disparity and the struggle faced by lower income group in the slums in Mumbai. Sparked by this we see two women who have taken an initiative to educate the children in the lower income group without any disparity and witness how the community responds to it. Despite all the trials tribulations they are moving with a vision to provide quality education.

Lower income group has been living in Mumbai since its inception. Yet until now we have realized that the education that has been provided to these people isn't the same as to the others. Resulting in an age-old notion "Rich becomes richer and poor becomes poorer," as education holds the key to once economical growth. This is a story of two women who have left their reputable jobs in the workforce to open up these makeshifts schools in the heart of the Mumbai slums. Teaching the students from the lower income group, the studies that are being taught to others. Helping those people to build a prosperous future.

The film narrative unfold through a series of storylines: education for the lower income class, lack of education and resources that the government failed to handover specifically to the lower income group, willingness to learn and overcome from the lifestyle they were living in, interviews of the two women and the problems faced by them. We hear characters share their personal stories, speaking passionately about hard work and anticipation, the struggle and hope. The Leftovers concludes by showing the idea that represents the commitment of the two women to educate the students of lower income group.[4]
