The Lift also known as Thang Máy is a 2020 Vietnamese horror film produced by Illuson Films and distributed by CJ CGV Vietnam.[1]Based on the Korean urban legend; The Elevator Game, the film follows a young teenage girl investigate her friends' death. As she digs deeper, she unravells the truth of her death and ends up in the otherworld.[2]

The film was released on October 30, 2020 in Vietnam.

Plot[edit]

After the death of Jina, Trang, a teenage girl, was traumatized after seeing her die because of playing a game called Elevator Game.

Trang's stepfather, Son is having a secret relationship with Jina that only Trang has known and when Jina died, Son decides to play the haunted game in order to save Jina. While Trang and her classmates including Ngoc secretly throw a party at Trang's house, her mother calls her that Son haven't been texting all morning. Trang video calls Son and tells her that he is now playing the Lift Game at a hospital he once worked. During the video call, Son sees a haunted woman and ultimately dies. Trang and Ngoc decides to go rescue Son at the hospital.

When they arrived at the hospital, a mysterious user texts Trang. Trang decides to play the game with Ngoc via video call. However at the fifth floor, she lost contact with Ngoc. Right after when the elevator descended, Ngoc is nowhere to be seen and all was left was her phone in which the haunted woman that killed Son before called. Left with no choice, Trang plays the game with courage. The woman laughs at Trang due to her increasing fear. Trang then falls unconsciously to the ground. During her sleep, she dreams about Son attacking her mother while at home. Ngoc, who is revealed to be alive, awakens up with Trang only to find themselves inside the otherworld. Trang realizes that they are injected with a black serum that makes them kill. While Trang was talking, Jina kills Ngoc and tells her to run away.

Now or never, Trang goes back to the elevator to finally end the game. However, Jina appears to have a knife and tries to kill Trang. The two have a talk and Jina commits suicide. In a floor, Son sees Jina's dead body lying down at the ground. At the same time, Trang reunites with her mother. Son chases them in the elevator and gets crushed off-screen. Trang finally wakes up, knowing that it was all just a nightmare and Jina and Ngoc are revealed to be alive. In school, Trang, Ngoc and Jina enter the elevator and go to the fifth floor.
