Synopsis[edit]
The film takes place in a working-class neighborhood of Old Cairo, where a magician named Mansour Bahgat lives with daughter and tries to make his fellow paupers’ lives more joyful amongst the crowds. Into his life comes a divorced woman named Shawqiah seeking a new home with her son after her husband’s remarriage. Mansour fears so much for his daughter that he prevents her from going to school, and he tries to keep Shawqiah from interfering with the dynamic either, but when he obstructs her from pursuing a relationship with a young man, Shawqiah tries to liberate her.
Reception[edit]
The film swept the awards at the 2003 Cairo International Film Festival, besting seven other entries.[1]
