The Mall Rats
The Mall Rats is the second episode of Season three. Mike Wheeler goes to Jim Hopper’s place, Hopper’s Cabin for a make-up meeting and decides to play a movie and watch it with Eleven, he gives her a compliment, telling her her hair looks mature, which Eleven appreciates, and then he decides to get her a snack, he looks in the fridge to see rice cakes, celery, and ice cream, he decides that Eleven probably liked rice cakes, but Eleven doesn’t appreciate Mike’s gesture, Mike decides to get ice cream for Eleven and she is content. Mike then turns off the lights and starts the movie. Hopper enters the room forces Mike to leave; Eleven is mad Mike left and breaks up. At Hawkins Square, Hopper is happy and goes to Melvald’s General Store, where he offers Joyce Byers a date and teases her about the magnets being missing. This is when Joyce realizes the magnets are missing. Mike decides to go back to Starcourt Mall, and he buys a scrunchie to make her feel better, but he sees her hanging out with Max Mayfield and Eleven gets mad at Mike for lying to him, dumping him. On the bus, Eleven gets in a slap battle with Max. Nancy Wheeler is working at the Hawkins Post, and Tom Holloway requests that she makes them coffee, Bruce Lowe requests that Nancy makes him a black coffee, Tom requests that his coffee be regular with two creams and two sugars, Kal wants the same as Tom, and Sammy wants Coffee. Decaf. With Cream. Nancy uses water from a hose and uses an old filter from years ago to make their coffees, Nancy forgets what coffee the guys ordered, so she puts in a random amount of sugar and cream in the coffees. Bruce thinks that the coffee is gross and spits it out. All of a sudden, three phones in the Post office start to ring, and Nancy is forced to answer the phone. When she answers the third phone, she hears that Driscoll Farm has some sort of rat problem, she agrees and heads to the Driscoll Farm with Jonathan Byers, who willingly agrees. Doris Driscoll tells the two to check the back for rats, and they enter the barn, they see a big brown glop of the Mind Flayer, and they attempt to warn Mrs. Driscoll, and are forced to search the basement, but they find out the Mind Flayer got her, they turn on the lights, stunning Mrs. Driscoll, and then they beat her up. She recovers quickly, and they have to repeat this three times. They then go upstairs and call 9/11 for aid. Dustin Henderson visits Starcourt Mall to warn them of the Russian transmission that he had received, and Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley decide to try to uncover the Russian transmission to hear what it says. Dustin is forced to go to the library to find a Russian dictionary, where he finds out because the receptionist told him that the Russian dictionary was in their restricted section in their basement. He find the dictionary behind a switch door, where to enter he has to flick six levers in a specific way, he brings the dictionary back to Scoops Ahoy. Steve says that they don’t have time to find out what it says right now, but they will make it their priority. As Dustin is leaving, he sees a gang of Russians approaching him, one recognizes him and shoots at him. Billy Hargrove kidnaps Heather Holloway at the Hawkins Suburbs and decides to let the Mind Flayer touch her, she feels like her feelings are hurt by this and is sad.
