The Princeton Tigerlilies are an all-female a cappella group from Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey.[1] They are the University's oldest all-female a cappella group, founded in 1971 with the first women at the institution. The Tigerlilies are a student-run performance group and they hold open auditions for all First year and Sophomore women in the fall and in the spring. .[2] The Tigerlilies are members of Princeton University's "Acaprez" a cappella organization, which includes 8 other groups on campus: the Tigressions, Wildcats, Footnotes, Tigertones, Nassoons, Katzenjammers, and Roaring Twenty.

Music[edit]

All songs sung by the Tigerlilies were arranged by current members, alumnae, or friends of the group. New arrangements are added each year, diversifying the group's repertoire..[3] The Tigerlilies also often collaborate with other campus a cappella groups, including The Princeton Footnotes, The Princeton Tigertones and The Princeton Nassoons.

In 1994, the group was a runner up in two categories of the 1994 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards,[4] including Female Collegiate Best Album and Female Collegiate Best Soloist.

It is tradition for the group to sing in new members and sing out graduating seniors with the group's founding song: Ella Fitzgerald's "How High The Moon", which is featured on "A Cappella Party: Best of the Ivy League Singing Groups".[5]

The group also collaborated with The Princeton Nassoons and The Princeton Tigertones on "I'll Be Seeing You", originally sung as a tribute for Michelle J. Goudie '93 and Morgan W. McKinzie '93 who died in a tragic plane accident[6] in their junior years at Princeton University. Michelle J. Goudie '93 was the current group's president when the accident occurred and since then, the University has dedicated an award in her name, for the senior in each year who presents a thesis in the field of Chemical and Biological Engineering in the energy and environmental area.[7]

Tours and performances[edit]

With the other members of the "Acaprez" a cappella organization, the Tigerlilies perform every few weeks at arch sings Arch Sings at Blair or 1879 Arches on Princeton's campus.

The Tigerlilies tour twice a year, often embarking on an international tour in the falls and a domestic tour in the spring. Recent tours have included London (2017), Hong Kong (2016), New York City (2016), and Greece (2015).
