Plot[edit]
Lucia von Bardas presents summaries of the Avengers' abilities to Doctor Doom, although she has not yet acquired information on Thor, who stayed in Asgard following the Avengers' battle with Loki, or Ant-Man, who has taken a leave of absence from the team. Doom instructs Lucia to proceed with their plan and destroy the Avengers should they interfere.
The Thing and Human Torch arrive at the Avengers Mansion for poker night with Hawkeye, Hulk, Black Panther, and Captain America.
Iron Man and Wasp visit the Baxter Building, where Mr. Fantastic is diligently working in his lab. Iron Man and Mr. Fantastic discuss Asgard, Mr. Fantastic's studies of Princess Ravonna, and Ant-Man's absence. Wasp and Invisible Woman visit 42, where Wasp shows Invisible Woman the collection of supervillains the Avengers have incarcerated. Invisible Woman explains that the Fantastic Four are first and foremost explorers, rather than crime-fighters.
At the mansion, Hawkeye boasts to Human Torch about the Avengers' victory over Loki and the Hulk and the Thing brawl after the latter gets a full house. During the skirmish, Doom, who has been carefully observing the Avengers and the Fantastic Four, begins his attack by detonating explosives at the mansion and the Baxter Building.
Doombots begin attacking 42, Mr. Fantastic's lab, and the mansion. As the heroes at the mansion fight off Doom's robots, Thing explains to the Avengers who Doctor Doom is. Black Panther points out that Doom's attack on the mansion seems out of character. At the Baxter Building, Mr. Fantastic ponders aloud why Doom would choose such a time to attack. Not long after the attacks begin, all the Doombots at the mansion and the Baxter Building spontaneously shut down at once. The eight male heroes gather outside the Baxter Building, confused. A group of nearby Doombots form a daisy chain and Mr. Fantastic determines that they are going to explode. Other Doombots have begun attacking New York City.
Iron Man finds Wasp and Invisible Woman on a plane being piloted by Lucia von Bardas, but is unable to rescue them. Mr. Fantastic defuses the explosive Doombots and the others destroy the robots attacking the city. The heroes regroup to form a rescue plan.
In Latveria, Wasp and Invisible Woman have been imprisoned in pods in Doom's castle. Lucia sees the Avengers' Quinjet approaching and fires missiles at it. Doom discovers Iron Man has already infiltrated the castle using invisible armor and attacks him. The other heroes soon join the scuffle. Black Panther defeats von Bardas while Iron Man, Human Torch, Mr. Fantastic, and the Thing destroy a trio of giant Doombots. The heroes try to take on Doom but are no match for him. To the group's surprise, Doom frees Wasp and Invisible Woman and dismisses the group with a cryptic warning that they don't see what is happening.
At the mansion, the heroes discuss Doctor Doom's suspicious behavior, while Doom, in his lair, examines the vital statistics he collected from Wasp and Invisible Woman, which reveal that Invisible Woman has been replaced by a Skrull.
