The Shimian is a 2022 British supernatural horror film by Bader Media Entertainment CIC and written and directed by James Peakman. It tells the sinister story of a family camping trip in a remote forest to celebrate a birthday and fix their strained relationships, but their celebrations are cut short when they learn that something unearthly is hunting them and stars Sophie Simmons, Blake Hutchings, Margot Lin, and Ashlea Winfield.[1][2]
Plot[edit]
Set in the UK, the story follows Tony, his wife to be Sarah, his daughter Emma and her school friend Claire as they take a camping trip into the mysterious "Sleepless forest." The family have a strained relationship which they'll have to quickly overcome once they become trapped inside "Blatty Manor" and if they have any chance of escaping their assailant from another world.[3]
Development[edit]
Writer and director James Peakman has stated that "‘the original story was an extension of a short film the production company made also named The Shimian. That was set in the 1930s and focused on a lady of a manor house being tormented in bed by an unseen entity. Continuing from the story set in the 1930s, the feature-length will be set in modern times creating a full timeline of The Shimian mythology while watching the lives of four relatable people unfold throughout."[4] Development began in November 2021 with early script drafts and was the final script was completed in February 2022.
Production[edit]
Bader Media Entertainment CIC began production in early April 2022 and lasted 12 days. The filming took place in the private forest of Thorpe Constantine in Tamworth before moving to a studio in Birmingham and finally Warwick with Guys Cliffe doubling for "Blatty Manor".

Release[edit]
The Shimian will host its world premiere at Millennium Point in Birmingham on the 29th of September 2022.[5] Following the premiere "The Shimian is set for VOD release later in 2022.
