Flagship site and sister sites[edit]

The Smart Local's flagship website and regional websites with a presence in Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, and South Korea are independent media outlets that specialise in featuring travel and lifestyle narratives intended for local and traveller audiences. Their objective is to provide reliable, hyper-local information to residents and visitors, whether they are seeking activities within their own countries or abroad.[10]

The Smart Local Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan, and Korea were launched in 2019.

Zula.sg, Eatbook.sg, Mustsharenews.com, and Wiki.sg are some of The Smart Local Media Group's sister sites.

Zula.sg is a digital lifestyle magazine that covers a wide range of topics, including beauty, fashion, relationships, and career advice, aimed at young women in Singapore.[11]

Eatbook.sg is a food-focused website that features reviews, recommendations, and news related to Singapore's vibrant food scene, providing readers with a comprehensive guide to the city's culinary offerings.[12]

Mustsharenews.com is a news and current affairs website that aims to deliver timely and accurate reporting on local and global events, with a focus on topics that matter to Singaporeans.[13]

Wiki.sg is an online platform that serves as a knowledge repository for Singaporeans, providing comprehensive and reliable information on a wide range of topics related to the country's history, culture, and current affairs.[14]

Uchify.com, The Smart Local's newest media site brand, is an online portal discussing the topics of HDB living, property market, interior design, and renovation in Singapore.[15]

The group also owns Youtube channel TSLTV[16], which has launched Singles' Inferno-inspired dating show One Week Love in 2022.

Company growth[edit]

In 2023, The Smart Local Media Group expanded its C-suite to welcome a new chief growth officer and group director[17], and acquired Malaysian software firm StackIdeas[18] to expand its technological capabilities[19][20].

Social media accounts[edit]

The Smart Local also has a number of social media accounts that have a substantial Singapore and Southeast Asian following, including branded Facebook pages, Instagram pages, and branded and unbranded TikTok pages. Telegram Collective[21], part of The Smart Local Media Group, also has numerous branded and unbranded Telegram channels engaging a young Singaporean audience.

Critics[edit]

"Singaporeans Try: Indian snacks" video criticism[edit]

A 2016 Deepavali video by The Smart Local, "Singaporeans Try: Indian snacks”,[22] showed staff reacting negatively to tasting Indian snacks and garnered criticism from several members of the Indian and creative community in SIngapore. The company issued an apology on a Facebook post, saying, "It was our intention to create a video celebrating Deepavali, but because of the poor execution of the video, we ended up offending a sizeable community of fellow Singaporeans. The video should never have been produced and we removed it as soon as we realised our mistake...We apologise again for this mistake and we will not be producing content like this again."[23]
