The Taxpayers are an American punk rock band formed in 2007 in Portland, Oregon.[1] The band is known for their DIY Punk Ethic and commitment to inclusivity. [2] They are often noted for experimenting with different styles, genres, and instrumentation, and for writing narrative-based concept albums. [3] [4] [5] [6]

Their album God, Forgive These Bastards (2012) details the life of a fictional baseball player named Henry Turner. It was released alongside a book of the same name written by Rob Taxpayer.[7] The story was adapted into a stage play by the Hum’n’Bards Theater Troupe in 2018. [8] The album has received critical acclaim. [9] [10] [11]

Their song “Medicines” is used as the theme song for the podcast Sawbones (podcast), and their song “We are the Hellhounds” is used as the theme song for the podcast Life in the World to Come.[12] The film In Echo Park (2018) included their song “Let the Wheels Turn Slowly” for the final scene and closing credits. [13] Clarke Howell’s documentary The Taxpayers Go to Florida (2013) follows the band on a DIY tour of Florida. [14] Members of the band appeared in the Shibby Pictures documentaries Baseball Punx (2017) and Trying it at Home - A Documentary on DIY Punk (2018). [15] [16]
