The University Club of Denver is one of the oldest private members only social clubs in Denver, Co. Founded in 1891, the private members only club was founded "to promote social intercourse among ourselves" [1] At the time of its founding it distinguished itself from other clubs in the Denver area by requiring members to hold a college degree, a rarity at the time and a membership requirement that the Club still enforces.[1] The Club has many traditions including an Annual Members Meeting and the annual 12th Night variety show. [1][2] Although the Club was original envisioned as a men's only establishment women were permitted to join as full members in 1990.[1]

Founding

The University Club of Denver was founded on January 31,1891 incorporated under the laws of Colorado by eleven men who became the first board of directors. Among the board of directors the first group of Club officers was elected including Henry Treat Rodgers (president), John L. Jerome (vice president), Edwin N. Hawkins (secretary), and Allan M. Culver (treasurer).[2][3]
