The Wigs is a monthly Australian legal podcast produced by host Jim Minns and featuring practicing barristers Stephen Lawrence, Felicity Graham, and Emmanuel Kerkyasharian.[1]
The three barristers met while working for the Aboriginal Legal Service in New South Wales.[1]
Launched in September 2019, episodes average 1 to 1.5 hours, usually discussing three notable and current issues in the law.[citation needed] Extra material episodes take deeper dives into individual issues interviewing subject experts in the particular field.[citation needed]
The podcast has covered various topical legal issues, both in Australia and internationally and included notable guests such as renowned international lawyer Geoffrey Robertson QC who discussed the war crimes implications of the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War.[2]
Impact and real-life influences[edit]
The trio led a successful legal bid with solicitor Peter O'Brien to ensure more than 20,000 people could march lawfully as part of a Black Lives Matter rally in Sydney,[3] the focus of which became one of the show's most downloaded episodes.[citation needed]
In June 2020, the podcast was briefly the top-rating podcast in Australia.[citation needed]
During the 2020 COVID-19 lockdowns the podcast did several episodes examining the laws that had been introduced to enforce the lockdowns in Australia. Their criticisms of those laws was amplified by mainstream media[4] and host Felicity Graham went on to do a public Q+As on the issue hosted by The Daily Telegraph.[5]

In 2020 the podcast was shortlisted for the NSW Council for Civil Liberties' Award for Excellence in Civil Liberties Journalism.[6]
