Tim Kabat is an American Democratic politician and public administrator currently serving as the 42nd Mayor of La Crosse, Wisconsin.[1]
Biography
Kabat was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 30, 1966. He holds a BS from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse and a MURP from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign.[2]
Kabat was an Associate Lecturer at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse in Microeconomics & Public Policy, from 2011 to 2012; City of La Crosse Planning and Development Administrator, from 2003 to 2010; Agency Relations Director for The Nature Conservancy in Madison, from 2002 to 2003; Senior Planner for the City of Madison, from 2000 to 2002; Sauk County Planning and Zoning Administrator, from 1995 to 2000.[3]
Kabat has been at the forefront of local officials trying to combat the effects of climate change.[4] He is a prominent member of "Climate Mayors", a group of local government officials trying to fight climate change from a bottom-up decision-making process.[5]
In December 2019, Kabat testified before a special U.S. Senate Special Committee on the climate crisis affecting local governments.[6]
