Early life and education[37]

Timothy James Liddy was born in 1963 in Dearborn, Michigan. He grew up in Allen Park, Michigan and played multiple sports. In 1980, he suffered a spinal cord injury while playing hockey and was paralyzed for nine months from the neck down. He gradually regained movement and after years of extensive rehabilitation, was able to walk with assistance of a cane. This injury propelled his artistic career.

Education

Liddy graduated from Allen Park High School in 1981. His main interests were woodworking and sports. In 1984, he attended Center for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan and received a BFA degree in 1989. During his senior year, he studied at the Studio Arts Center International in Florence, Italy. He attended Washington University in the graduate art program as a painter and received his MFA in 1991.

Career

Liddy accepted a position as an art professor in 1996 at Fontbonne University in St. Louis, Missouri and was granted tenure in 2010.
