Timo Dentler (born 3 January 1971 in Ulm) is a German scenic designer.

Biography[edit]

Timo Kaspar dentler grew up in Ulm as son of the goldsmith Rudolf Dentler and studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf free arts, set and costume design with Professor Karl Kneidl from 1990-99. In 1999 he became Karl Kneidl’s master student. 1996 Timo Dentler got the Markus-Lüpertz-Award of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. From 1992-98 he worked at the Berliner Ensemble, the Frankfurt Opera, the Vienna Festival and at the Munich Kammerspiele. In these years he made several productions with Peter Zadek.

Since 1999 he work im team with Okarina Peter as successful stage and costumdesigner. Their international engagments include the Stuttgart State Opera (under Klaus Zehelein) the Semperoper, the Bregenz Festival, the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the National Theatre Mannheim, the Nürnberg State Opera, the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, the Kölner Schauspielhaus, the Staatstheater Mainz, the Staatstheater Wiesbaden as well as the Opera Houses and Theatres of Darmstadt, Bielefeld, Augsburg, Bremen, Bern, Luzern, Luxembourg,the International Handel festival Göttingen and the Gothenburg opera house.

Recently he has been responsible for the set and costumes of The Barber of Seville at the Graz Opera[1], Next to Normal at the Dortmund Opera, Le nozze di Figaro at the Oper Bonn and Titanic at the Bad Hersfelder Festspiele.[2] With Peter Konwitschny he had outstanding success with Boris Godunov at the Nürnberg State Opera and Gothenburg opera house. Also with Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.[3] In 2009, 2011 and 2013 Timo Dentler have been nominated as best set designer and 2011 as best costume designer by the Opernwelt magazine and for the production of Zemlinsky’s Der Zwerg at the Chemnitz Opera he got nominations for the best set and costumes in 2016.

The artist collaborate with stage directors like: Nicholas Broadhurst, Harald Fuhrmann, Michael Heicks, Michael Höppner, Stefan Huber, Roland Hüve, Aron Stiehl, Immo Karaman, Peter Konwitschny, Daniela Kranz, Petra Luisa Meyer, Ulrich Mokrusch, Nadja Loschky, Walter Sutcliffe, Manfred Weiß and Klaus Zehelein.
