Timothy Gatenby (born 1987) is a British contemporary artist known for satirical, figurative paintings that incorporate pop culture references and cartoon imagery.[1][2]
Early life and education
Gatenby was born in Stratford-upon-avon, England. He studied Fine Art Painting at Charles H. Cecil Studios, Florence.[1]
Career
Gatenby's work combines figurative painting with cartoon nostalgia and satirical humour. His paintings often recontextualize familiar animated characters through a darkly comedic lens.[1][2]
He has exhibited in solo and group shows in London and internationally, including Guy Hepner, National Portrait Gallery, Waluso Gallery,[3] and Blond Contemporary.[4]
Style and themes
Gatenby draws inspiration from childhood cartoons, consumer culture, and the distorted lens of nostalgia. His exhibition A Nice Day Out at Waluso Gallery explored these themes through figurative works referencing familiar characters and surreal humour.[3]
