Timothy Lauren Heller[1] is an American singer and songwriter. Raised in Portland, Oregon, she became known in mid-2013 as part of the indie pop duo Dresses.[2] Heller launched a solo career in 2017, with the release of her first single, "Sleep".[3]
Early life[edit]
Heller attended Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. Growing up, choir, band and musicals were a part of her high school experience.[4]
Career[edit]
Heller and guitarist Jared Ryan Maldonado formed the indie-pop duo Dresses in 2013 in their hometown Portland, Oregon.[5] The band went on to release one studio album and two EPs, with the single "Sun Shy" reaching over 13 million plays on Spotify and several other singles reaching over a million plays.[6] They served as the opening act of some dates of Melanie Martinez's Dollhouse Tour in 2013 and 2014, and their song "Catch" was featured on American television series Vampire Diaries.[1] Dresses opened for French indie-pop band Phoenix (band) along with the San Francisco based band The Limousines in 2014. The single "Sun Shy" was featured on the ABC Family TV show Switched at Birth. [7] However, without any official announcement, Dresses disbanded in mid-2016, and both musicians went on to pursue solo projects.
After a long hiatus, Heller released her debut solo single, "Sleep", on October 14, 2017.[8] The official video for "Sleep" was released on February 23, 2018.[9]
Rape and sexual assault allegation[edit]
On December 4, 2017, Heller posted a long statement on Twitter in which she accused fellow singer and former friend Melanie Martinez of sexual violence, stating that she was assaulted and raped by Martinez.[10][11][12][13] Martinez denied Heller's statements through two posts on Twitter[14][15].
