Development[edit]
In November 2016, Chris Perez teamed up with Endemol Shine North America and Major TV to make a television series based on his book, which tells the story of the late Latin music superstar through the eyes of her husband. Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. sued him. In 2019, According to him, the lawsuit was to block the production alleging that only Selena’s estate (Q-Productions) has the right to her name, image and “to author or authorize and commercially exploit a book, play, video, film, TV movie” about her life.[4] A trial date is tentatively scheduled for June 15 in Nueces County court if mediation talks in April are not successful.[5]
On September 14, 2021, Chris Perez, the husband of late Tejano star Selena Quintanilla, said that he and her family have worked out their differences after a long legal feud. Back in 2016, Quintanilla sued Perez and two companies planning to turn the book into a series. The lawsuit said at the time that after Selena's 1995 murder, Perez signed a deal that gave all rights to Selena's likeness and name to her estate.[6][7]
