Toby Wiseman is a British physicist who is currently a professor of theoretical physics at Imperial College London.
Career and research
Wiseman obtained a PhD in gravity and cosmology under the supervision of Neil Turok in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge in 2002. He was then part of Stephen Hawking's research group.[1] at Cambridge until 2004. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard University until 2006[2], when he moved to Imperial College London’s theoretical physics group. In 2019, he was made a Professor at Imperial College[3]
His research focuses on fundamental aspects of gravity and black holes, in particular with regards to understanding spacetime and gravitation at the lowest and highest energy scales[4]. He has authored a large number of papers in string theory and strong gravity.
Alongside his research, he has been heavily involved in teaching at Imperial College, lecturing undergraduate courses in mathematical analysis and general relativity. He has also lectured courses in quantum field theory, quantum electrodynamics, and cosmology for Imperial's Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces Master's course.
