Tom's is a chain of gas station/convenience stores based in York, Pennsylvania. Tom's currently has one location in Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania.

Shipley Group[edit]

Shipley Group, the York-based company comprising Shipley Energy, Shipley Fuels Marketing, Shipley Propane, Tom's Gas Station Convenience Stores and Yowza Coffee & Water, provides service to 15 counties throughout Pennsylvania. The company is in its fourth generation of family ownership.

History[edit]

Shipley traces its origin back to 1929 when Thomas Shipley founded the Roosevelt Garage and Supply Company as a convenient place for people to fill their gasoline tanks and service their automobiles. Thomas Shipley died in January 1930. Tom's convenience stores are named after its founder. Samuel Hunt Shipley, his son, took charge of the company and led the firm for 45 years. Currently under its forth generation of family ownership, William Shipley III now oversees company operations.

Food service[edit]

All locations offer sandwiches, snacks and numerous beverages including Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs, Turkey Hill Teas, Coca-Cola products, Pepsi products, Tom's Java, and YOWZA Coffee & Spring Water products. Two Tom's locations now include a full Arby's fast food restaurant and drive-through.

Travel centers[edit]

Some locations have grown into travel centers. These eight travel centers have expanded to include eight gasoline pumps, four diesel pumps, full food menu, public restrooms, public pay phones, lottery, ATMs, air pumps, money orders, fuel man, com data cards/checks, EFS cards/checks, Fleet One cards/checks, T-Check cards/checks, fax, and truck parking. Tom's travel center in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania is now partnered with The Stop restaurant and an Econo Lodge hotel.

Fuel service[edit]

As a member of the Shipley Group, Tom's provides gasoline, diesel fuel, E85 gasoline [1] through Shipley Fuels.

Awards[edit]

Shipley received Central Penn Business Journal’s 2009 Corporate Citizen of the Year.[2]

Shipley Energy and Tom's are sponsors of the York Revolution,[3] a team of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball based in York, Pennsylvania.
