Tom Quinn is a British actor born in Guernsey in April 1991. He trained at East 15 Acting School from 2010 to 2013..[1]
Theatre[edit]
Quinn has worked on the West End stage, first appearing on the London stage of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap at St Martin's Theatre as the understudy Christopher Wren.[2]
In 2017, Quinn appeared in the National Theatre's touring production of War Horse, based on the children's book by author Michael Morpurgo[3]. Quinn played the major role of Joey and Topthorn's head puppeteer.[4][5]
In 2019, Quinn continued the role into the 2019/2020 UK and International Tour of War Horse,[6] playing venues including Glasgow SEC, Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Lyric Theatre Hong Kong, Civic Theatre Auckland, Regent Theatre Melbourne[7] and Lyric Theatre Sydney[8] among many others. Due to the outbreak of the global pandemic COVID-19, the International tour was cancelled on 18 March 2020, cancelling performances at the Crown Theatre, Perth.[9]
Post pandemic in 2021, Quinn joined the Olivier Award nominated company Nicholl Entertainment for productions of Dinosaur World Live. This played at the Coventry City of Culture and London Wonderground (an Udderbelly festival), on the site of the old Earls Court Exhibition Centre.[10][11] Extending into 2022, Quinn also was Puppet Captain for the production's large scale tour of the USA.[12]
Also in 2021, Quinn was involved in the original research and development workshops for the live show of ''Spitting Image''. This live version of the 80s satirical comedy TV show was written by Al Murray, Matt Forde and Sean Foley who also directs, and their work eventually led to the show "Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image Saves the World". This held its World premier on 1st February 2023 at the Birmingham REP theatre, with Quinn playing Tom Cruise amongst other puppets.[13][14] Later that year the show was renamed as Idiots Assemble: Spitting Image The Musical, on its transfer to London's West End at the Phoenix Theatre for a limited run from 24 May until 26 August 2023.[15] Quinn is currently part of the West End cast of 'Spitting Image: The Musical' alongside a host of other Voice Over Impressionists and Puppeteers.[16][17][18]
Appearances[edit]
During Quinn's time with War Horse, he attended many large scale events promoting the show. In October 2019 Quinn appeared on ITV's This Morning with Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield[19]. During this appearance, Schofield was seen riding into the studio on top of Topthorn[20], puppeteered by Quinn and team mates Lewis Howard and Samuel Parker.[21][22]
October 27th 2019, Quinn appeared live on BBC Radio London, with Host Gaby Roslin, talking about War Horse[23]
In January 2020, Quinn appeared with his team as Joey, live on Australia's Channel9's Today show promoting War Horse during the Australian Open 2020[24]. Presenter Allison Langdon rode in on Joey whilst Karl Stefanovic spoke to Puppetry Director Gareth Aled.[25]
As part of press work with Spitting Image, Quinn appeared live on ITV's This Morning again, with puppets of Donald Trump, live lip-syncing to writer Matt Forde, in front of presenters Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.[26][27]
Television[edit]
On television, Quinn has appeared in shows like ''Sheiffer Bates I Con'' (E4).[28] His film experience includes short films ''Cosmic Biscuits'', ''The Arena'', and ''Splintered''.[29]
Early work[edit]
At the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Quinn played the role of Gilbert in the show Sex Ed: The Musical[30][31] where one reviewer stated that he "more than delivered with the sole male vocal part."[32]
